Ami Moore, The Chicago Dog Coach, Supports The Mental And Emotional Health Of Returning Veterans By Training Emotional-Assistance Service Dogs

CHICAGO, IL, October 23, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ami Moore, a Chicago dog training expert who is widely known as 'The Chicago Dog Coach' recently appeared on the The Beacon Radio Show with host Bill Jurek to discuss the training of emotional-assistance service dogs for veterans. Her program, entitled 'Hounds4Heroes', provides training for service dogs at no charge.
The program, which is a coordinated effort with The National Institute of Canine Experts (NICE), provides training for the service dogs free of charge. The program is a grassroots effort to assist the servicemen returning from the Middle East wars to recover from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), Trauma, TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries) and Anxiety Disorders. Both disabilities often occur together and insurance companies do not cover the use of service dogs to assist the veteran with symptoms associated with PTSD and TBI. Therefore, to obtain such a dog, a veteran would be required to pay $10,000 to $50,000 out of pocket. In the 'Hounds4Heros' program, there is no cost to the veteran.
"Our PSTD service dogs," stated Ms. Moore, "are trained to relieve the mental stress of violence and war from the minds of our veterans who are returning from Iran and Afghanistan. Our dogs are living medicine that heals the war-torn mind. Psychological, neurological, and cognitive disorders show no outward identifying marks. It is important to understand that not all disabilities are visible; not seeing something is wrong outright does not mean there is no disability."
"These dogs are trained to help veterans with PTSD, trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, mental stress and emotional-stress by providing comfort and support during their activities of daily living. Our Chicago dog training program is unique in that we help the veteran pick out the dog of choice and help the veteran train the dog to meet his or her unique needs. As a way to show our appreciation, we provide the Chicago-based service dog training for free to qualified veterans."
