The Twilight Zone Enters a New Dimension
From audio downloads to satellite radio, the Twilight Zone is reaching out to a whole new generation.

CHICAGO, IL, February 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Twilight Zone premiered on television in 1959 on CBS and introduced the baby-boomer generation to an eclectic mix of science-fiction, fantasy and satirical humor written by some of the top writers of the era. Its appeal was immediate and reruns of the original show continue to this day second only to I Love Lucy as the most syndicated show in television.

And now it's crossed over into new media and a new generation through a nationally syndicated radio network, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, a website, and audio downloads of classic and original scripts adapted to the theater of the mind.

According to Carl Amari, the Producer of the Twilight Zone Radio Dramas, the response has been immediate. "The original Twilight Zone captured timeless themes that struck a chord with its audience. It confronted issues from UFO's to Apocalypse and always demonstrated a tremendous insight into the curious dynamics of human nature."

Amari has exclusive rights to the Twilight Zone property through CBS and the Rod Serling estate and has carefully crafted a portfolio of audio versions of both old and new scripts delivered with the unique Twilight Zone perspective. "I knew that The Twilight Zone was perfectly suited for a fully dramatized radio series. There was a simple formula for the Twilight Zone that allowed a writer enormous freedom to explore themes and ideas. From the iconic music to the eloquent introductions and conclusion from Rod Serling we experience a morality play in every episode."

To date, Amari and his team of writers and directors have produced more than 160 audio episodes of almost all of the original stories and many new scripts touching on relevant and timely themes. "The Twilight Zone was so ahead of its time that many of the new scripts are timely variations on themes explored in the original TV series including artificial intelligence, alien abductions, and life after death. There are also very new themes and ideas we're developing from the chilling implications of nanotechnology to the reality of parallel dimensions."

Amari is no newcomer to the potential of audio dramatizations and he has managed to amass an armada of some of the top names in Film, TV and entertainment to perform in his new interpretations of the classic show. "Actors love the opportunity to perform the pure dialog of these dramatizations. In so many ways it's therapeutic theater for a performer. No makeup, no wardrobe, just come into the studio with an incredibly talented ensemble and perform. They love it and I've heard that from all of them from Lou Gossett, Jr. to Jason Alexander, Jane Seymour, Lou Diamond Phillips, Don Johnson and more than I can begin to mention here. All of the shows feature Stacy Keach in the role that Rod Serling served as narrator, and every episode is now an hour in length."

The Twilight Zone website at www.twilghtzoneradio.com lists all of the shows currently available for download along with the full ensemble of stars who have brought this iconic series back to a whole new generation.

"If you think about it." Amari said. "Many people discovered The Twilight Zone when they were teenagers back in the 50's and 60's. I think the fact that it's stayed with those folks for so long is a testament to its legacy. Now a whole new generation is rediscovering it through the weekly national radio broadcasts, XM, Sirius, MP3 downloads and the Internet. It's a truly timeless concept that intrigues us to this day. In fact, one of our stars defined the unique strength of our approach. His name is Stan Freberg and he coined the phrase, 'Theater of the Mind."

Freberg's concept was simple as it related to the power of audio and radio drama. It's based on the fundamental idea that the proper combination of performance, music and sound design allowed us to paint pictures in our mind that would cost millions to produce on film. Amari agreed. "One of our proudest moments was winning the XM Satellite Radio award for 'Theater of the Mind' production. With something as simple as an MP3 player, a wireless mobile device or even on your car radio, you can see complex events from massive alien visitations to travel through space beyond the speed of light. Our minds love to create pictures and our approach empowers that visualization."

With regards to the future of The Twilight Zone, Amari was as always optimistic. "The Twilight Zone is fundamentally a variation of a classic Greek tragedy. It features a person or group with a tragic flaw that drives the plot into a land of unintended consequences. That thematic construct has been around for thousands of years. There's no reason it shouldn't continue for another few thousand...in fact... that might make an interesting new episode."
